Image Licensing
Licensing of Images for Commercial Use by Mark Fitzgerald
If you’re interested in using one of my photographs for commercial or editorial purposes, this is the right place to start. I license selected images for a variety of uses, from advertising and brand campaigns to magazine features and corporate marketing. Below you’ll find all the key information on how licensing works, what you can license my images for, and the terms of use.
How to License an Image
Licensing an image is simple:
- Identify the image: Let me know which photograph you’d like to license. Include any details you have, such as where you’ve seen it, or provide a screenshot or link.
- Describe how it will be used: Tell me the purpose of the image (e.g. advertising, website, packaging, editorial, etc.), the geographic region, and how long you’ll need the license.
- Receive a quote: I’ll provide a tailored license fee based on the usage details. Fees vary depending on the scope of usage (print, online, broadcast, or multiple formats).
- Sign a license agreement: Once we agree on terms, you’ll receive a simple license document outlining the rights granted and any conditions.
- Get the image file: After payment and agreement, I’ll supply a high-resolution, ready-to-use file for your project.
What My Images Can Be Licensed For
Licensing gives you permission to use my photograph for agreed purposes while I retain copyright. Examples of common licensed uses include:
- Advertising and brand campaigns
- Website or social media content
- Magazine and book editorials
- Product packaging and retail displays
- Corporate reports and marketing materials
- Event promotion and publicity
If you have a unique project in mind, just ask! Most commercial and editorial uses can be covered with the right license.
License Terms
All image licenses are tailored to your specific project and will outline:
- Scope of use: Where and how the image can be used (e.g. online, print, outdoor advertising).
- Territory: Whether the license covers Melbourne, Australia-wide, or worldwide use.
- Duration: How long the image can be used (e.g. one year, perpetual, campaign-specific).
- Exclusivity: Whether the image is licensed exclusively to you or available to other clients.
Licensing fees are based on these factors. If you need exclusive or extended rights, we’ll discuss a custom license to match your needs.
Important Notes
- Not all images are available: Some photographs may have restrictions due to client agreements, model releases, or subject matter. I will confirm availability for each request.
- License vs. ownership: Licensing grants the right to use an image; copyright remains with me as the photographer.
- No resale or redistribution: Licensed images cannot be resold, transferred, or used outside the agreed terms without additional permission.
