About Mark Fitzgerald Photographer
Fashion, Advertising & Commercial Photographer Based in Melbourne
Hi, I’m Mark.
I’m a Melbourne-based photographer specialising in fashion, advertising, commercial photography, and, above all, photographing people. Whether it’s a major campaign or a personal portrait, I’m here to help bring your ideas to life with sharp, creative imagery that feels purposeful and real.
Photography That Speaks the Right Visual Language
Every image tells a story. In commercial photography, that story needs to align with your brand’s message. Whether it’s “These shoes are unbelievably comfortable” or “You can trust us with your next big contract,” my role is to translate that message visually in a way that resonates with your audience.
Commercial and advertising photography is less about taking a pretty picture and more about saying the right thing without words. My job is to understand your brief and make sure the images do exactly that.
Technical Know-How Meets Human Connection
I love the technical side of photography: light, lenses, timing, colour, shaping and modifying light – all the nerdy stuff that makes a great image happen. But equally, I love the performance aspect of being behind the camera.
They say the camera sees both ways, and I believe that’s true. My energy and direction are reflected in the people I photograph. A little of me ends up in every frame; not in the shot, but in the expression and energy of the person in front of the lens.
Shoot Production: Bringing the Right People Together
One of my strengths lies in production: the pre-shoot planning that sets a great shoot up for success. I enjoy the process of building the right team, scouting locations, writing briefs, and making sure everyone knows their role on the day.
I believe the best results come when you work with people whose natural style already suits the project. If the default setting of everyone on set is already in alignment with the vision, the job becomes much simpler, and far more enjoyable.

The Real Secret: Connection
My personal on-set specialty is building connection. If I can connect with the subject – genuinely, not manipulatively – they’re far more likely to offer a performance that’s honest, vulnerable, and real.
It’s that connection that makes a portrait work. That moment of ease or intensity. It can’t be faked, and it makes all the difference.
Let’s Talk
If you’ve got an upcoming shoot, campaign, or creative idea, I’d love to hear about it. I’m always happy to meet over a coffee, talk ideas, and see where it leads.
